Hand-painted Sea Glass Wine Glasses

Many of you already know how much I love Pinterest! The ideas and imagery give me the opportunity to get lost in creativity and start to brainstorm a new project. I came across these frosted wine glasses this year, but the blog post that was attached to the pin was no longer working, so I decided to do some research and try to find out this technique. It turns out that Martha Stewart Sea Glass paint is what I was looking for - so I ran out to get some as quickly as possible!

The colors that I purchased screamed “SUMMER” and I was so excited to try them out. I bought some wine glasses at the Dollar Store (don’t you love the Dollar Store???) and used painters tape to outline a design on the glasses.

I used the “pouncer” technique to paint the glasses - SO EASY - and then set them out to dry. Within an hour, they were dry and I was able to remove the tape, however, the recommended time for drying is at least 24 hours….I was just being a little impatient with the first set!

When I removed the tape, I noticed a few spots that where a tiny bit of bleeding had occurred so I was able to push the paint back in line with my finger nail.

After air-drying for 24 hours, I placed them into the oven and THEN turned it on to 350 degrees. The instructions for curing this paint can be found here if you would like to read more about it. The oven heats up the glasses gradually from room temperature so that they don’t break. Once the oven reaches 350 degrees, they need to cure at 350 for 30 minutes. Once 30 minutes has passed, turn the oven off and let them return to room temp on their own. They will be very hot so be sure to be careful! This curing process allows them to be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher, however, I have not tested mine yet!

I LOVE how these turned out and am so excited to experiment with this paint in so many other ways.
