Essential Oil Projects for Fall and the Holidays
This is a round up of some of my favorite holiday DIY projects that use various essential oils!
Frankincense & Grapefruit Scented Himalayan Salt Scrub - as seem on the cover of Willow and Sage Magazine!
This moisturizing scrub helps to alleviate dry skin during the cold winter months and the grapefruit and frankincense essential oils provide an invigorating scent. This recipe fills approximately 10 4 oz jars and fits perfectly into a stocking or is a thoughtful teacher gift.
INGREDIENTS:
Air tight jars for storage
3 cups Salt - Himalayan, Epsom or Kosher are some options
1/3-1/2 cup Carrier oil such as Sweet Almond Oil
15 Drops Grapefruit Essential
Oil 25 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
DIRECTIONS: Combine salts and carrier oil in large bowl until the salt has a wet consistency. Mix in essential oils and spoon the mixture into air tight jars. The salts will be less abrasive after sitting for a day. Use in the shower or as a hand scrub as an exfoliating and moisturizing treat.
Whether you’re creating these in batches at a DIY night or just making it on your own, this recipe makes another great grab-and-go option! These labels can be found in my Fall & Holiday Label Bundle.
Homemade Lavender-Mint Bath Salts
Easy recipe for soothing bath salts! (see the entire blog post here…)
I truly love when I have the time to take a bath – and for aches and pains, I always add Epsom salts for the added benefits of healing.
A recipe for Lavender-Mint bath salts is below, but you can use other essential oils that are also safe for skin. Please remember to do your due diligence when researching the safety and purity of essential oils.
Lavender-Mint scented bath salts
ingredients and instructions:
4 cups of Epsom Salts
1/2 cup of sea salt (optional)
25 – 30 drops of lavender oil
3/4 cup baking soda
* Apple Cider Vinegar to use later when running your bath
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and then transfer to air-tight containers.
I use 1/2 cup of salts per bath, plus 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar.
If you, or someone you’re gifting, doesn’t take baths – this also makes an amazing foot soak.
FRIDGE FRESHENER:
2020 changed the condition of our refrigerators around the globe. Working from home and virtual school means constant eating from home! This easily made concoction helps to eliminate odors from your refrigerator! Just combine baking soda and lemon essential oils in a bowl and keep it somewhere in the fridge that it out of the way.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup of baking soda
12 drops of lemon essential oil
DIRECTIONS:
Combine baking soda and essential oils in a small bowl and mix with a fork. Store in the refrigerator to absorb unpleasant odors.
Homemade Salt Scrub
S A L TS C R U B
This natural salt scrub base can be used with many different fats and/or essential oils. Remember that different salts have different textures and consistencies - so keep that in mind when choosing your ingredients. (Epsom salts are larger granules than kosher or table salts, etc.) We used Epsom salts that seemed large and rough at first, but after setting for a few days, they were less abrasive and very soothing.
INGREDIENTS:
Air tight glass jars for storage
3 cups Salt - Epsom, Himilayian, or Kosher are some options
Essential Oils (we used 35 drops of Lavender)
DIRECTIONS:
Combine salts and sweet almond oil in large bowl until the salt has a wet consistency. Mix in essential oils and spoon into air tight jars. The salts will be less abrasive after sitting for a day.
*** this was a bulk recipe since we had a larger group and filled 8 4oz Ball jars.

Fall Harvest Sachets - as seen in Willow & Sage Magazine
The scents of fall evoke pure nostalgia to me - and so many others around the world! These sachet packs are an easy way to combine natural and fragrant ingredients and create a beautiful harvest scent for any room, drawer - or even a car.
YOU WILL NEED:
Cinnamon Sticks
Cloves
Whole Nutmeg
Star Anise
Dehydrated Citrus (see recipe here)
Dehydrated Apples (see recipe here)
Other ingredients to consider might be essential oils for additional scents, dried citrus peels or dried herbs like rosemary or lavender.
Combine equal amounts of these ingredients into sachet bags and tie the drawstring. If you’re going to be sprinkling your ingredients with essential oils, be sure to do so before filling the bags and let the pieces dry so that the oil does not seep through the bags.
Peppermint Candy Loofah Soap
Peppermint Candy Loofah Soaps
Peppermint Candy Loofah Soaps are a thoughtful, and fun gift for the holiday season. And even though they might look time consuming to make, they’re truly not at all. Their fresh, minty scent is sure to evoke those holiday spirits whether they’re used in the shower or they sit on your favorite holiday soap dish by the sink. I love wrapping these up like traditional peppermint candies for a unique method for packaging!
